Lose the Booze
Today I will be speaking to Becky Want live on BBC Radio Manchester about the nutrition and health aspects of her 'Lose the Booze' campaign. Becky had an alcohol free Christmas and is now supporting people to make January a booze free month in order to improve health, lose weight and boost wellness.
So what role does nutrition play in supporting liver health?
The liver has a multitude of vital roles within the body including filtering toxins, absorbing necessary vitamins and minerals, manufacturing bile (very important for breaking down fats!), regulating blood suagr levels and producing hormones and chemicals that manage a multitude of enzymes to support body functions. Foods that help to support liver health include low GI foods - The Glycemic Index indicates how different carbohydrate foods break down to release their sugars and thus raise blood glucose levels. If you eat a well balanced GI meal then you help to stabalise blood sugar levels which helps to reduce symptoms of fatty liver which include achy joints, fatigue, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, weight gain, forgetfulness, constipation and many more...
To help you boost liver health here is a fabulous recipe which is low in GI and also delicious:
